AAUW Celebrates Pay Equity Victories

AAUW Marks Pay Equity Victory at the White House
Thanks to the hard work of AAUW and our coalition partners, the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act became the first bill signed into law by President Obama. AAUW Executive Director Linda Hallman, CAE, and Director of Public Policy and Government Relations Lisa Maatz attended the signing ceremony at the White House. AAUW members and Action Network subscribers have worked tirelessly to bring this bill to passage, and the AAUW Capitol Hill Lobby Corps was also instrumental in this advocacy campaign. AAUW will continue to urge the Senate to fight for pay equity by following the House and passing the Paycheck Fairness Act.

AAUW Works with New Obama Administration
As President Obama forms his administration and his agenda, AAUW continues to be involved with the changes taking place in Washington, D.C., and beyond. We have already been working closely with the president's team to ensure that breaking through educational and economic barriers for women and girls is at the top of his agenda. Keep the ChangeAAUW Kicks Off Keep the Change Campaign
AAUW kicked off our Keep the Change campaign to urge Congress to "Keep the Change until Women Have Real Change." This action is AAUW's response to the Bureau of Labor Statistics report that women were paid 78 cents on the dollar compared with men in 2007, only a one cent increase from the previous year. Find out how to get involved and order Keep the Change posters and lapel stickers for AAUW events, meetings, programs, and protests.

Listen to AAUW's Public Policy Press Briefing
AAUW and Rep. Rosa DeLauro (D-CT), author of the Paycheck Fairness Act, which passed the U.S. House of Representatives, joined forces in a January 15 media briefing that called on Congress to focus on the challenges facing women and their families. Participants included the Wall Street Journal, Politico, Gannett News Service, Bloomberg, Women's eNews, Huffington Post, BlogHer, Pundit Mom, and several others. You can listen on our website.
